How to celebrate and not go broke
- PREPARING FOR THE NEW YEAR TOGETHER
According to statistics, in December, stores make up to 40% of annual revenue. Gifts, home decorations, clothing, delicacies ... How to celebrate the holidays and not go broke, says Alexandra Tolstygina, financial expert, independent financial adviser of INFINADO OJSC
You probably know that financial planning is the main rule for any situation, but if we are talking about New Year's celebrations, they need to not only be planned in advance, but conditionally divided into three stages: New Year's (preparation for the holiday, corporate and school celebrations), New Year itself and holidays (travel, family entertainment, Christmas trees, visits to friends and relatives). In order to reduce costs for the holidays, you need to carefully think through all the stages. And pay attention: to make a good plan, you need to start from the end. In our case, you need to think about how you will celebrate the New Year and what the holidays will be filled with. It will depend on what you need to prepare and buy.
Stage 1. NEW YEAR
Much needs to be done in these days! Outfits for yourself, children and your husband, gifts, blanks for the festive table, souvenirs for colleagues, a Christmas tree, children's matinees ... In order not to go broke already at this stage, remember two keywords: fantasy and moderation. Make a list of everyone you are going to give in this year.
Define a budget. How much are you willing to spend on gifts? Select in the list those people on whom you would not want to save. Think about what they would be happy about. Go around the shops, search the Internet, determine the cost.
Do not leave purchases at the last moment. This is the right way to spend significantly more than you plan, and not buy what you need.
Before buying, think about whether you can save. Perhaps in the near future the store will arrange sales or you can participate in wholesale purchase from a warehouse. It is reasonable in this way to acquire toys for children, gifts to colleagues and partners, alcohol.
Real hysteria is observed before the New Year in grocery stores. Do not panic. Make a list of products needed for the New Year's table and family nutrition on 1-2. After the holidays, there will be discounts in stores and you will replenish food supplies.
Now let's talk aboutclothes for the holiday.
Do not buy ready-made masquerade costumes for children. As a rule, they are distinguished by two characteristics - low quality and high price. Try to make costumes yourself (for our tips, see the "Children" section).
If you are looking christmas outfit for myself, from a financial point of view, there are two right ways.
Option one: a high-quality classic thing that can be worn for many years, changing accessories. A win-win - little black dress, which this year can be supplemented with fashionable gold or purple accessories. The second option is bright, very relevant and inexpensive thingwhich can be worn several times and thrown away without regret. Which of these options do you prefer? If you have a lot of official events, choose the first path. And if you will meet with family and friends in an informal setting, prefer the second.
Stage 2. MEETING OF THE NEW YEAR
Each family has its own traditions for celebrating the New Year. But be that as it may, the feeling of a holiday does not depend on the amount spent, but on the mood. Therefore, it is still worth remembering some rules that will help you not to go beyond the budget.
Think over holiday script and make up list what you need. For instance, home decorations, napkins, candles, gift bags on the eve of the holiday are many times more expensive than in early December. Buy them in advance, and even better - immediately after the New Year holidays with a huge discount - and postpone until next year.
Rationally approachthe number of dishes on the holiday table. For example, do not cook too many salads, they become stale every other day and go to the trash. If during the holidays you do not want to stand at the stove, it is more reasonable to make semi-finished products.
Stage 3. POST-YEAR HOLIDAY HOLIDAYS Ten days of rest for many families was a difficult test. To enjoy the holidays, they also need to be planned.
If you want to go tojourney, keep in mind that the peak tourist season falls at the end of December and the New Year. It is wiser to celebrate the New Year at home, and go on a trip after it. There are many short and cheap routes: the Baltic states, Poland, the Czech Republic
Look for free entertainment. Take a walk in the park in the air. Invite the children to visit and arrange a home holiday. Ride the hill. Read books, watch movies, go to the rink. See the sights of the city. Drive through the sparkling night streets. Admire the illumination. There are so many miracles around, and to see them, you do not need to open your wallet. You just need to open your eyes.
P.S If you are thinking about the rationality of spending money, you should not think only about celebrations during this period. Try to use this time to the maximum benefit for yourself. In late December - early January, in some types of business there is a rise. Goods and services are in high demand. This is a trade in food, household appliances, household goods and clothing. Before the New Year, most families seek to improve and decorate their homes. Therefore, apartments are massively repaired and furniture is bought.
Immediately after the New Year, prices for finishing materials and services of teams offering repair services are reduced by 30 percent. If you plan to repair, do it after the New Year.
But there are activities in which a recession occurs before the holidays. This is construction, medicine and financial services. Try not to spend money on something that is in high demand. At this time, it is possible to undergo medical examinations cheaper and faster, make profitable real estate investments at the construction stage and, in the end, use the services of financial advisers.
